What is the Year 12 Bonus Scheme?
If you're a 2009 Australian high school applicant you may be eligible for the UTS Year 12 Bonus Scheme. The Year 12 Bonus Scheme awards bonus points to Australian high school applicants based on their performance in high school subjects that are relevant to the course they have applied for.
What this means is that the Year 12 Bonus Scheme:
- allows us to take into account your performance in HSC subjects, in addition to your ATAR, that we believe will better prepare you for the demands of your chosen university study
- will award bonus points to you based on your performance in selected HSC subjects for the following UTS courses:
- Engineering - except those combined with Law
- Science - except those combined with Law
- Nursing, Midwifery and Health courses
- Design - except those combined with International Studies
- Bachelor Arts in Architecture
- Bachelor of Construction
- Bachelor of Construction Bachelor of Arts in International Studies
- Bachelor of Business
- Bachelor of Science in Information Technology
- Bachelor of Science in Information Technology Bachelor of Business
- Bachelor of Science in Information Technology Bachelor of Arts in International Studies
If you're completing the International Baccalaureate or an interstate year 12 in 2009 you will also be considered under the scheme. UAC has information on International Baccalaureate subjects (links to an external site) deemed equivalent to NSW HSC subjects for bonus points purposes.
Why does UTS have a Year 12 Bonus Scheme?
UTS has put together the Year 12 Bonus Scheme because we believe that your ability to undertake the course you choose can be better measured by looking at a combination of the subjects you have taken and your overall ATAR, rather than looking only at your ATAR. This is because your ATAR tells us where you sit compared to other people but doesn't take into account your ability in subjects relevant to the course you select which can effect how you do.
How am I eligible for bonus points?
You are eligible to receive bonus points as long as you have:
- applied for a UTS course that awards bonus points
- a 2009 ATAR (or interstate equivalent)
- completed the relevant HSC subjects
You can find out which HSC subjects or UTS courses will get you bonus points by looking at the Year 12 Bonus Scheme calculator.
Do I need to apply for bonus points?
To make things easy for you the Year 12 bonus points scheme does not require a separate application. If you've put a UTS course that awards bonus points as one of the preferences on your UAC application after your ATAR results are released, we will automatically apply bonus points to your application.
How many bonus points are awarded?
The maximum number of HSC Bonus points you can be awarded for each UTS course you have down on your UAC application is 5.
The number of bonus points that you will be awarded depends on how you perform in relevant HSC subjects and, the UTS course(s) that you have applied for.
You can find out which HSC subjects or UTS courses will get you bonus points by looking at the Year 12 Bonus Scheme calculator.
