Biography
Dr Steve Cummings has held senior appointments for over 26 years in the sanitary ware field within the Australian manufacturing industry. From 1981 he has held the position of research and development manager at Caroma Industries Limited, Sydney. During this time he has been involved with the research and development of sanitary ware products for the Australian and global markets. He has taken a very active interest in the development and design of products which minimise water consumption and associated drainage systems. This focus has led to the development of a 6/3 litre dual flush WC technology nationally in 1993 that has substantially reduced water closet water consumption. More recently, following extensive research, his work led to the development and introduction of the 4.5/3 litre Smartflush toilets together with the Cube 0.8 litre urinal and Cube H2Zero waterless urinal. In December 2001, Steve was conferred with the degree of Doctor of Environmental Design (by research thesis) by the Faulty of Environmental Design at the University of Canberra. He is a Fellow of the Design Institute of Australia (Industrial Design) and a member of various Standards Australia Committees including the AS/NZ 6400 water efficient products - rating and labeling committee. As an active member he participates in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) standard committees. Steve is a recognised authority in his field and has published and presented scientific refereed journal and conference papers internationally.
