Vignette 4 - Barbara - Revising after examination
Barbara is in her late 30s, married with school-age children, and has recently learned she is (unexpectedly) pregnant. You believe her thesis is acceptable, but her examiners’ reports are mixed and she is required to do some substantial revisions before submitting her thesis for re-examination. The Board of Postgraduate Studies Committee says she must address the criticisms in all examiners’ reports, but the examiners don’t agree with each other about what the specific weaknesses are. Barbara is totally over-whelmed by this outcome and ready to quit.
What is your plan for your meeting with her?
What strategy might you propose for working out specifically what revisions to make?
What should you do to help her with the revisions?
