The launch of the Total Environment Centre's film promoting a more active attitude towards waste recycling and reusing at Parliament House on 7 April was a great success. Over a hundred people attended, including the new NSW environmental minister, several people 'starring' in the film, and Clover Moore who supported the event with a speech.

Vis Com graduate, Louella Pleffer's film Ain't in That Grave, has been selected in competition in the St Kilda Film Festival. Louella's film, a stop motion music video for local band Nighttown, was produced for her graduating major project. Now in its 28th year, the St Kilda Film Festival is Australia's longest running short film festival.
Master of Animation Graduate selected for competition at Annecy

Sarah Eddowes' animated film Collision has been selected for competition at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2011. Annecy is widely regarded as the most important festival for animation internationally. Collision was produced as Sarah's capstone project for her Master of Animation degree.
With the assistance of Deborah Szapiro, Sarah has also been successful with a $5000 travel grant for Screen Australia to attend the festival.

On 9 March two UTS Interior graduates scooped the pool at the GOTYA NSW/ACT Graduate of the Year awards run by the Design Insitute of Australia. Alison Lysaught won the NSW and ACT category GOTYA DIA Graduate of the Year in Interior Design and Sally Westren was runner up and also won the overall GOTYA DIA Colour award.

Visiting the UTS: Sydney International Animation Festival in 2010 is arguably Canada's most successful First Nations animation writer and director, Dennis Jackson, with his acclaimed series Wapos Bay. A feature of the Indigenous Program and forum, Wapos Bay is a Canadian animated series so far comprising 39 half hour episodes. UTS: SIAF will be screening the episode, THE HARDEST LESSON as part of this year’s indigenous animation program.
