In a move to ensure that urban planners and property developers can work together more effectively, the University of Technology, Sydney has brought together its Master of Property Development and Master of Planning with an innovative, shared entry-level degree. The newly-created Graduate Certificate in Property and Planning directly addresses recommendations made in the 2006 Planning Professionals Working Group Report to the NSW Minister for Planning, relating to improved communication between planners, developers and the community, and supporting planning education of the property development industry.

Lucinda Schreiber, Master of Animation graduate, won an IF Award for best Short Animation in November for her film The Goat That Ate Time. This adds to her recent win at the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival: the Kenneth and Harle Montgomery Prize for Best Film or Video from an Emerging Director. Her film has also been nominated for an AFI award, a Dendy Award for Short Animation and a Bradford Animation Festival Award.

Peter Smith elected Secretary General of the International Cost Engineering Council
At the recent International Cost Engineering Council (ICEC) World Congress, Senior Lecturer in the School of Construction Property & Project Management, Peter Smith was elected to the position of Secretary Treasurer of ICEC and also received the "ICEC Region 4 Award” for contributions to the Quantity Surveying/Cost Engineering profession in the Asia Pacific region.

Laced, a solo exhibition of new work by UTS Fashion & Textile Design lecturer, Cecilia Heffer, explores the notion of creating contemporary translations of one of the oldest and most seductive form of textiles - lace.
Winners Announcement: Lancôme Colour Designs Awards
Three Fashion and Textile Design students have been announced as the winners of the 2nd Lancôme Colour Designs Awards in Australia. UTS students are the only students selected to enter this prestigious International competition.

Senior lecturer in the Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication, Darrall Thompson is one of only nine prominent international practitioners (including two from Australia) in the field of online learning who presented a paper at the online conference, 'Learning and Teaching with Technology in Art Design and Communication' which was organised by The University of the Arts London.
