Sessional lecturer in Design and Architecture, Mark Gerada is currently writing a report that is rethinking planning and property development in the ever expanding Koala Coast of South East Queensland. Many of the scientists he has consulted with predict that as a result of the fastest growing urban areas in Australia, the Koala Coast will have no koalas within the next 5 years. Sadly, urban development is threatening koala populations Australia wide.

"Waste Not" Film Launch at Parliament House

The launch of the Total Environment Centre's film promoting a more active attitude towards waste recycling and reusing at Parliament House on 7 April was a great success. Over a hundred people attended, including the new NSW environmental minister, several people 'starring' in the film, and Clover Moore who supported the event with a speech.

Gerard Reinmuth working on two prestigious projects in Denmark

Gerard Reinmuth's architectural practice TERROIR is currently working on two major projects in Denmark, the Bispebjerg Hospital, a (AUD)$1BN project that is set to transform both the hospital and this area of Copenhagen over the next 15 years; and the Aarhus Tower 2, which will be primarily residential in use and is intended for young residents who will make use of the recreational opportunities at this harbour, one of the largest in Northern Europe.

Interior Design Graduate Success

On 9 March two UTS Interior graduates scooped the pool at the GOTYA NSW/ACT Graduate of the Year awards run by the Design Insitute of Australia. Alison Lysaught won the NSW and ACT category GOTYA DIA Graduate of the Year in Interior Design and Sally Westren was runner up and also won the overall GOTYA DIA Colour award.

SkinForm, a non-static project by 15 UTS Master of Architecture students, will be exhibited during the Sydney Architecture Festival on the 6th of October 2008 at Sydney Customs House. A full scale prototype, it transforms private enclosed spaces to public open spaces intelligently depending on specific situations, including environmental issues such temperature adjustments, glare control, UV protection, wind sheltering and humidity adjustments.

Eligible student in these coursework postgraduate degrees will be able to access Youth Allowance, Austudy and the Pensioner Education Supplement from 1 January 2008.
